President Muhammadu Buhari will return to Nigeria on today Friday 10th March 2017. This was made known via the official twitter handle of the presidency @NGRpresident.
Buhari left on January 19th, 2017 for a 10-day vacation which included routine medical check-ups in London and was scheduled to return the 6th ofFebruary.
However, a request for an extension of his vacation was sent to the senate a day to his scheduled return following recommendations of his doctors for further tests and rest.
The tweet also stated that “President Buhari expresses appreciation to teeming Nigerians from across the country, and beyond, who had prayed fervently for him, and also sent their good wishes,”
Many Nigerians have been jubilant on the social media and there are unconfirmed reports that the president will proceed to his home town of Daura for further rest. No resumption date had been announced.
The President received his good friend Most Reverend Justin Welby the Archbishop of Canterbury yesterday in what appears to be a farewell visit. It was the Archbishop who stoutly defended the president in a discussion between then British PM David Cameron and the Queen when the issue of corruption in Nigeria was brought up. He had said that President Buhari is different.
This puts to rest speculations about the President’s health which had been rife for the past few weeks.
