It’s YULETIDE, so we are writing for ONE MILLION!!!
TASK:
Write on one or more of the following genres.
You can only choose ONE prompt from each genre.
Your entry must be a complete, original short story that meets ALL our requirements.
FICTION
1. You were abducted with colleagues in your school/workplace.
Write about your experience in captivity, exploring your abductors’ motivation while flashing back on life before the abduction, focusing on your struggles with economic hardship.
2. As a military commander fighting a major security threat, you’re ordered to ensure success that could cost many civilian lives.
Write how you strategically defy this command, save innocents, and complete the mission.
3. You meet your longtime dream woman at a Christmas party shortly after proposing to the loyal partner who has stood by you through every hardship.
Narrate how you escape the love triangle and decide whom to choose, with the story set amid the scarcity and economic strain of the festive season.
NONFICTION
1. Write a disquisition on Nigeria’s rising national debt and inflation, examining how both strain households. Assess whether the government’s economic strategy offers real recovery or leads to further stagnation, using clear examples from daily life.
2. Examine the farmer-herder clashes in the North-Central region, arguing whether they stem from ethnoreligious tension or more fierce competition over dwindling resources caused by environmental factors.
3. Write a treatise on the popular trend of Online Search for a Spouse, exploring whether it has built lasting or broken marriages in recent years.
POETRY
1. Write a poem about the Christmas spirit in your community, using rich African themes and imagery while contrasting the festive mood with the realities of daily struggle for security and peace.
2. Write a poetic dialogue between a man and a woman exploring the issues of the need to acquire wealth before settling down to raise a family.
