On this day: in history (1975), Obinna Iyiegbu popularly known as Obi Cubana was born. He is a Nigerian businessman, entertainer, entrepreneur and philanthropist. He is the chairman and the owner of the popular Cubana Group.
Obi Cubana is from Oba, a community in Idemili-South Local Government Area in Anambra State, Nigeria. He attended Central Primary School Oba, where he obtained his First School Leaving Certificate. He proceeded to Dennis Memorial Grammar School Located in Onitsha where he obtained his West Africa Senior School Certificate(WAEC).
After completing his primary and secondary school education, Obi Cubana gained admission into the University of Nigeria Nsukka where he obtained a degree in Political Science.
In 2006, Obi Cubana started his entertainment business with Ibiza in Abuja, seeking to satisfy fun seekers and nightlife lovers. Following the remarkable progress he made from the Ibiza, he established the Cubana Group, a hospitality group that provides all-around entertainment satisfaction. The group is expanding its reach across Nigerian borders and also outside Nigeria. Today, Cubana has spread across various states in the country including Lagos, Abuja, Owerri and Enugu.
Obi Cubana has won several awards and recognition across the country. In 2021, he won the award for the Man of the Year, defeating the likes of Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State; Chairman, UBA Group, Mr Tony Elumelu; and Chairman and founder of BUA Group, Mr Abdul Rabiu. The businessman was voted by Nigerians at home and in the diaspora via online platforms in a 14-day Leadership Excellence Awards.
